Department of economic theory, management and administration history
Department of economics, management and administration has a long history of development. When in 1875 started Chernivtsi imperial and royal named Franz Joseph University, in a state-knowledge department of the Faculty of Law it was created the Department of Political Economy, headed by prof. F.Klyaynvehter. Lecturers of the department read courses of the economy, the national economy and statistics, science, finance, political economy, and others. Later, in the department worked world-renowned professors Ye. Erlih and Schumpeter. In 1940, the structure of the Chernivtsi State University economics department was created. In the late of 1960s there taught a course of “History of Economic Thought” the future first president of independent Ukraine – Leonid Kravchuk.
In 1977, according to the Decree of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Education of Ukraine Economics department of ChNU was appointed as an anchor department among related departments of universities in Western Ukraine (Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Volyn and Rivne oblasts).
Since Ukraine independence it was started undergoing profound reforms in all spheres and sectors of public life, including education. Begins a deep reform of the system of teaching and course structure of political economy. Since 1996, the department opened a “Management” specialty, from 2012 – “Economic Theory” specialty and 2016 – “Analytical economics” speciality.
Today the Department is an important institution in the composition of the Faculty of Economics and the University. It is headed by Doctor of Economics, professor Galushka Z.I. Department staff consists of 19 people, among them – two doctors of economic sciences, professors; 17 PhD, among them – 11 docents. On their doctoral dissertations works associates Antohov A.A. and Pochenchuk G.M.
To maintain long-term high qualification of employees it is functioning post-graduate and doctoral scienfic council for specialty 08.00.01 – Economic theory and history of economic thought, from 2013 – Scientific Council for defense of theses on specialties 08.00.01 – Economic theory and economic history thoughts and 08.00.03 – Economics and management of national economy.
Department of Economics, Management and Administration provides training for educational qualification of Bachelor – the first level of higher education – in the field of “Management” and “Economics”; educational qualification of Master – the second level of higher education – in the field of “Management and Administration” and “Analytical economics”
The department pays special attention to the implementation of scientific achievements in the educational process through the creation of new and improvement of existing teaching of disciplines. Results of this work have been reflected in the preparation and publication of a number of collective and individual monographs, textbooks and manuals.
The mission of the department of economic theory, management and administration of the ChNU named after Yurii Fedkovych is to form highly qualified professionals able to make scientifically informed decisions and be responsible for the organization, to ensure its sustainable long-term development in a competitive environment. Its implementation is based on the work of highly qualified lecturer staff; implementation of modern teaching methods using computer and multimedia equipments; establishing partnerships with leading enterprises in Western Ukraine and with foreign university partners; constant updating and adapting the structure of selected courses to the changing requirements of the economy; staff participation in the development of research, application and consulting projects for businesses.
Research works in the Department of economics, management and administration
Under the direction of doctor of economics, prof. Galushka Z.I, Department carries out scientific work in areas covering a wide range of relevant to science and national economy problems:
- “Evolution of Ukraine transition economy in the global economic environment” (2001-2005 biennium);
- “Institutional mechanism for sustainable development of Ukraine in an open economy” (2006-2010 biennium);
- “The determinants of competitiveness socio-economic systems” (2011-2015 biennium);
- •«Economic socialization and management capacity of the national economy (2016-2020 biennium).
As part of the aforementioned problems over the years worked on these theses, which were subsequently successfully defended 3 doctoral dissertation: “Socialization of Economy of Ukraine as a strategic need of development” (Doctor of Economics, professor. Zaitsev J.K.), ” Adjusting the currency in a market economy transformation “(Doctor of Economics, professor. Nikiforov P.O.)” Socialization transformation economy, laws and contradictions “(Galushka Z.I.). In 2017 it is planned to have protection on 2 doctoral theses (Antohov A.A., Pochenchuk G.M.). 14 lecturers of the department for 10 years defended their 12 lecturers: Zapukhlyak V.M., Storoschuk B.D., Kavtsenyuk N.A., Bilyk R.R., Terletska Y.O., Pochenchuk G.M., Saenko O.S., Antohov A.A., Kravets V.I, Gruntkovskyi V.U., Luste O.O., Zavolichna T.R., Klevchik L.L., Dutchak A.V.
Within ten years, the department successfully operates permanent postgraduate study on specialty 08.00.01 – “Economic theory and history of economic thought”. From 1 December 2006, it was studied their doctoral works Galushka Z.I., Hubatyuk I.V., Shvets N.R., Antohov A.A.
Much work is being done to attract students to scientific research in various forms. This is evidenced in the ChNU annual Republican scientific conferences of students and the number of publications in abstracts of scientific student conferences. Each year, students participate in university and nationwide competitions.
Since 2005, educational-methodical work of the department is done according to the credit-modular system of educational process. Of all the economic-theoretical and professional disciplines that department teaches students of economic and non-economic faculties, it was developed work programs, practical plans (seminars), guidance, control subjects and coursework, packets of control tasks to test student’s knowledge. Fundamental and professional discipline curriculum provided by the necessary teaching and scientific literature, textbooks and teaching materials developed by lecturers of the department, including: “Economic theory” (for students of economic specialties), “International Management”, “Crisis Management”, “Economic nobeleology”, “Economic security “,”Strategic management”, “Management and administration” (3 volumes of the series for bachelors and masters), “Economic theory. Workshop”, “Economics for bachelors”.
Information management at the Department of Economics, Management and Administration meet state requirements that apply to teaching of specialists. The main sources of information which support lecturers and students of specialty 8.030501 “Economic Theory” is a Chernivtsi University scientific library, Faculty of Economics library, methodical room of the Faculty, electronic library and its own Web-page on the Internet. In the general funds of the university library is sufficient textbooks and instructional manuals on economic and theoretical subjects. The library has more than 250 professional titles and textbooks. Among them, occupy a significant place teaching design, teaching aids and textbooks on economic theory and managerial disciplines.
Department of Economic Theory, Management and Administration international activities
The department is actively working to expand international activities. Department staff involved in the coordination and implementation of projects financed by the European Community through the Joint Operational Program “Romania-Ukraine-Republic of Moldova 2007-2013”, including Voloshchuk O.A.- “The European experience in fighting against soil erosion» MIS ETC 1591, Zavolichna T.R. – “Joint business support center – to promote entrepreneurship in the cross-border area» MIS ETC 1934 and “Strengthening communication between people with visual impairments in the cross-border region» MIS ETC 1995, Saenko O.S. – “The program promoting healthy lifestyles “Choise of the youth – sport» MIS ETC 2000.
Prof. Galushka Z.I participated in the Second International Scientific Forum “New Economy”, dedicated to the 400th anniversary of Political Economy (Kraków (Poland)), 1-10 November 2015), and was trained in the academic community named after Baludyanskoho M. and Ukrainian Association of researchers in economics ( Krakow (Poland),. Kosice (Slovakia)) 1-10 November 2015. Lecturers of the Economics, Management and Administration Department issued 22 foreign publications (Poland, Moldova, Romania, Kazakhstan, Slovakia, Russia).
The department is actively working on the preparation and holding of international scientific Shumpeter’s forums. In 2014, it was organized a round table on the competitiveness of regions on which were invited economists from other universities of Ukraine.
In 2016 lecturers of the department Zapukhlyak V.M., Gruntkovsky V.Y. and Saenko O.S. conducted program course classes “Organization and management of business activities” as part of the Norwegian-Ukrainian project “Retraining of redundant military personnel and their families in Ukraine”, funded by the International Fund for Social Adaptation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway.
Over 2016 members of the department took part in the coordination and implementation of the following projects:
Voloshchuk O.A. – “The European experience in fighting against soil erosion» MIS ETC 1591 (funded by the European Community through the Joint Operational Program “Romania-Ukraine-Republic of Moldova 2007-2013”;
Zavolichna T.R.:
1) Trainer for educational module “Social activities for united communities” in a project “New government, new budget – Polish-Ukrainian public school finance”, Ukraine-Polish project, Contract number RITA-2015-29, concluded between the Fund «Edukacja dla Demokracji “as donor, within the framework of «RITA – Przemiany w Regionie » and Foundation of Local Democracy, Lesser Institute of Territorial Administration and Self-Government;
2) PR-manager of the project “Improvement of the environmental situation in basins of rivers Prut and Dniester through improved wastewater treatment systems in Chernivtsi and Cahul” code MIS-ETC 1535, Joint Operational Programme Romania – Ukraine – Moldova 2007 – 2013 financed by the European Union through the Instrument European Neighbourhood and Partnership.
In September 2016 3 masters in speciality 073 “Management” received a grant and went for a 7-day research fellow at the Dr. Yan-U. Sandals Institute (Oslo, Norway).
During January-June 2016 within the program Erasmus + K1. “Learning mobility” one master in “Management and Administration” was term studied at the University of North (Budo, Norway), specialty “Sustainable Management”.
In the spring and fall semester 2016, students of the specialty “Management and administration” listened to English-language courses “Social entrepreneurship”, “Innovation Management” and “Management Services” and participated in the International School for Social Entrepreneurship, which was held at the Faculty of Economics of Chernivtsi National University named after Yuriy Fedkovych by Norwegian Professor Dr. Jan-Urban Sandal ( Dr. Yan-Urban Sandal Institute, Norway).
